Programmer Analyst

Overview

Effective utilization of data is the primary responsibility of the dedicated Advancement programmer analyst. Working closely with Advancement staff, the programmer analyst gathers data requirements from fundraising staff, builds data criteria and output specifications based on input from staff, and may do the programming or work with other programmers to fulfill the data request.  The programmer analyst is expected to be knowledgeable about LSU fundraising business processes, be timely in the delivery of requests, and work collaboratively with IS and Advancement. This position will report directly to the Director of Information Services within Advancement Services at the LSU Foundation.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
  • Actively gather requirements, build specifications, program criteria, produce reports, and review product satisfaction with the requester
  • Review and assess business requests for data and data usage
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues
  • Maintain high-degree of working knowledge of Ellucian Advance and other systems used in daily work in Advancement

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Contributes to team objectives by accomplishing IT tasks as needed

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent from an accredited college or university
  • Experience with SQL server (T-SQL) or Oracle (PL-SQL)
  • Strong understanding of stored procedures, packages, functions, and views
  • Strong understanding of the Systems Development Lifecycle

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with Crystal Reports, SSRS, or other report program
  • Experience with the .NET Framework
  • Experience working directly with customers or clients to understand business requirements
  • Experience with query optimization
  • Strong understanding of database design principles
  • Demonstrated experience in managing time effectively
  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing problem solving technique
