Director of Development

The LSU Foundation, in conjunction with the E. J. Ourso College of Business, is seeking a mission-driven, experienced professional with exceptional fundraising abilities to serve as its Director of Development. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development in the college, the director will cultivate and solicit prospective donors with the potential to contribute major and principal gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the college, university, and foundation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains a portfolio of major gift prospects and ensures the dean is engaged with high level donors, prospective donors, and volunteers
  • Works with the Advancement Services staff to track and plan identification of, cultivation of, and contact with donor prospects
  • Works with department chairs and faculty as well as the college's advisory board on all philanthropic endeavors
  • Engages volunteers and alumni regarding special projects and collaborative partnerships
  • Assists in the communication and coordination of activities with fundraising agencies, including the LSU Foundation, LSU Alumni Association, Tiger Athletic Foundation offices, and outside parties
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues across campus

Marginal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attends events or meetings with volunteers and staff as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least five years' experience of major gift work or nonprofit fundraising
  • A proven track record of soliciting and securing major gifts
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to be independent and a self-starter

Preferred Knowledge & Skill Qualifications

  • Familiarity with electronic university advancement databases
  • Experience working with an advisory board and volunteers
  • Experience working in a university environment

Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel and occasionally work evenings and weekends.
